View Full Version : Boobash - MAM

Next Saturday, Oct 27th is the Boobash at MAM. Drivers meeting is at 9am.
Any of you street racers gonna actually go to a real track and get off the street? Last year was a blast and this year should be just as good. Plenty of track time and the pirce isn't too bad for a full day of road course action.
Check out MAM's website (http://midamericamotorplex.com) for the details. Hope to see some of you out there and off the streets :)

Well, I don't think you can just drive on the track without prior experience - there are other cars on the track, some going pretty fast esp. Tim. I would suggest you n00bs go out there (if you are not drunk, working or have some other lame excuse like claiming to have no gas money coz you are texting too fuckin much) and go ride with someone like Tim (voidthis) and experience some road racing. Some of you may be actually motivated to do it, perhaps!

we've had this discussion before on this board... .
Open track days at MAM / FTL events are a bit over the top for a NOOB.
Don't let that scare you though. There are things you can do to lessen the fear and highten the experience
1.) make sure your car is in good working order among other things.. .
2.) make sure your brakes are good
3.) Make sure your tires are good
4.) Take a ride around the track first, for a whole session with a guy that knows the ropes
5.) Have the same guy or another experienced dude ride with you and coach you.. .
Typically though, it's better off that you get prior HPDE instruction before hitting an open track day. This is safer for you and the other guys on the track.
Have fun and take some pictures:thumbsup:

I'll get pics and video. This time I'll make sure the video camera is in a better spot. Maybe on the outside of the car right behind the front tire :)

If you guys that have never driven a road course want to come out, I'd be more than happy to give rides. Some of my fastest times were when people were riding with me. If you show up, just hit me up and ask.

what kind of lap times were you guys puttin down?
Was Joe practicing some drifting so he could get it on video?
voidths
10/28/2007, 10:51 PM
Heh, No, not trying to drift, we both ran out of gas 2 laps after this video was shot, and it was very cold. My tires never got above 170. My best times were only 1.45's. I think the cold weather and the meds I'm on hurt a little, but we were movin' out there for sure.

Coo. I don't blame you. Once you have the grip it's tough to be satisfied with something not as grippy. I'll be stuck on 225 toyos for all of next year I think. If I find a good deal on maybe some 225/50 Advans, I might try those too though.. .

Ha yeah, I think that guy is competing in Midwest Honda Challenge H1. I saw some of his times from his first race at MAM.. . 1:55s or something:spoiled: I hope that's on street tires.
He's got a long way to go.. . My car is H1 legal(- safety equip) and I can run 1:47s consistently now and I've been told I need to be another 3 seconds faster (1:44s) to be at national H1 speeds.. . 3-4 seconds faster than what a Spec Miata can pull for consistent lap times at most any course.
It would have been cool to chat with him though. Maybe next time.
What the hell does the sol have a n/a b16 or somthing?

From the looks of it a single!

From the looks of it a single!
well.. . I doubt a single.. . H1 cars usually run nothing lower than a B16 but there was one guy this year that tried a SUPER D17. I doubt the Del Sol can make the min weight with a B16 though.. . That will hurt laptimes but in all respect, its got a TON to do with the driver. I think he just got into racing over the last year or so.
I went from a best laptime of 1:55 on street tires to 1:53 on R comps on my next session to 1:49s and then to 1:46 as a personal best. I attribute the 1:46 to just getting more experience out there, my RA1s getting to a faster wear point and mostly to my car being able to turn better with an added rear sway bar. If the car is built to the max rules of H1 with the B16, he should be able to pull just as good, if not better lap times as I.
A Del Sol with B16 needs to be at 2100lbs with Driver to be at min weight
with B18/B20 = 2250, K20/H = 2400, K24 = 2450

You may be right but all I know is that it was kind of funny watchin him go down the straights.

I found some posts I remember him in on another Forum (NASA) and I guess he's clocked some 1:49s in HPDE and only 1:52s & 3s in race. Not bad but definitely not where he needs to be for an H1 car.. .
He's at 2340lbs with driver and he didn't mention what motor setup he's running but it is an H1 car. He's even heavy for a B18/20 setup so I'm not sure how he's goin about things. He prolly just needs to invest in a BIGGER HAMMER and some Carbon Products.
If he has a B16 and lost 200lbs somehow, he could be 1:44-46 range pretty easy I think.
I know for a fact my car could loose 150lbs. But I'm not goin that route quite yet:tongue:

He looked fast in a straight line in that vid compared to your speed.
Looks like he's still rockin those cheapy 235 RA1 takeoffs from a pic I see too.
I C Justin made it out there with his Modded Sti as well (front mount Intercooler). How was that runnin?
voidths
11/05/2007, 11:52 AM
That was Justin ahead of me in the video. The only time I saw Brian was when I passed him, and then another time I let him by when I was on my cool-down lap. He doesn't talk to me much, maybe he's mad I'm so fast :)
Justin's STi had a melted oil overflow line on the catch can, and very high egt's so he ran 110 octane to keep from knocking, that's why he was pulling some on me in the straight.

Yea, figured might as well. I got sick of swapping tires and brakes before and after every event. I did almost a dozen events this season so it's paid for itself by making life at the track so much easier. Wake up, load it on the trailer, drive to track, unload and go. End of the day, load it back on and away I go :)
Priceless!
