So I waited patiently on CRSX for a CAI for cheap price but in good condition. I finally found one and picked it up for $135 compared to the $200-250 brand new.
Well of course this thing is a bitch to put in. First you have to take off the front bumper then move the battery blah blah. It fits great though once you moved it in the right spot. Gotta love how the filter sits right behind the brake duct for the ram air effect.
Let's start with the cons.
1. Lose a little bit of throttle response.
2. Time consuming installation trying to move the tube around so it won't hit the shift linkage.
3. Makes engine bay have a huge empty looking space.
Pros
1. HUGE inscrease in top end. After it hits 6k the tach just flys to 8 grand.
2. Sound is great. Growls at low rpms and screams at high.

damn it looses throttle response, shit stock the throttle respons is horrible...was it worth it? i would of went with a comptech ice box or arc intake chamber box, or even a short ram, for the mid range and you gain throttle response since the k20 already has shit loads of top end.
go race your friend with the "semi built" civic now, ill bet you keep up with him if you know how to drive...their are some instances that k motors have gained a good 20 WHEEL horsepower from certain intakes, and i heard injen makes some of the best intakes for rsx's. i never thought that would be possible but ive seen it. btw when you race him this time do a 2nd gear roll... just slam it into second, ill bet you that you pull pretty good, and at least keep up with him.

I went with the cold air because it does improve top end power like a mother, but also mid range. Yes, ARC, Mugen, Comptech, ect. intakes with snorkel designs do greatly imrpove throttle respsonse, and mostly midrange power. Its just they are ment for circuit racing/autocross. My stock airbox had great throttle response. I didn't go with the short is TERRIBLE I MEAN TERRIBLE. Since the K motors are so sensitive to heat the engine will heatsoack quickly. Not to mention the filter sits right in the middle of the engine bay sucking up that heat. There are even dynos of a stock airbox dynoing higher than a SRI after a few runs.
Bottom Line____________
CAI for top end and some midrange. Max agains from CAI.
ARC, Mugen, Comptech ect. are ment for midrange power. Circuit/Autocross. Less gains than CAI but still noticable. Not to mention the price tags. With the price of a ARC you can get a RH and CAI making at least 20 whp more than just a airbox.
SRI's are just a waist of money.
I'm just glad I went with the CAI.

its not that hard, just gotta play with the CAI and move it place to place so its not in the way of anything like the shift linkage. we did it close to an hour. great improvment
actually comptech ice box, is like a cold air, and i seen dyno graphs where mugen and comptech, are one of the best intakes for the rsx. because they take well to mods, like after i/rh/e when you start modding the engine itself ie. internals, port & polish. but i figure you'd want that mid range since you street race, you would need it instead of the top end. but its watever you want, just becareful and dont suck up water!
is their more than one injen intake style isnt their a rs series or something.

Nah, not for the RSX. Just Mega Short ram, Short Ram, and Cold air.
I know I was driving home last night and it was storming. I didn't go over 2,700 rpm and didn't go over 25mph. So I wouldn't suck anything up. I just ordered a hydroshield and fenderwell. Soon I shouldn't have to worry about hydrlock.

u shouldn't really worry about hydrolock...unless you are going like 50mph and drive right in the deepest areas of water...hydrolock is hard to do if u r a cautious driver(which I thikn u r) so unless u r going to drive it in a river it's rare that u would hydrolock!lol

man James busted your ballz on that one... . Don't feel bad, listen to this.. .
I used to have a 88 dodge daytona Pacifica. Basically a Dodge daytona Shelby. The 2.2 turbo car. The pacifica was a fully loaded power everything, leather, AUOTMATIC.
I beat the SHIT out of that car. Ruined the tranny, rebuilt the tranny, turned up the BOOST untill the engine spued oil from the valve cover to the intake. I warped the head < my dads fault. He got into the car after I put a manual boost controller on and told my mom, "I can't beleive how fast that lil car is, should we let him drive that thing? " My mom told me to stop fideling with the car. When it came time to put a new exhaust on... She paid for it so I wouldn't UPGRADE it too much. My dad told her if I upgraded the exhaust it would be faster than his old pooch of a 79 corvette.
Parents. Everything has to be under the radar. .. .
I ended up screwin something up with the car. Passed out behind the wheel on 35 S goin from Ames to Ankeny at 3:15am. I woke up with all 4s in the center median goin 25mph. I regained conciousness, stepped on the gas and the car went no where. I look over the hood and there was smoke. Stopped the car and there was an engine fire. Car wouldn't start and I salvaged the fucker for $440. That was that. I never knew if I blew the engine or anything.
I called my mom at 3:30am and she picked me up 3 miles outside of Huxley Iowa. She just shook her head in shame and didn't say a word.
Next vehicle = 94 1/2 ton Sierra GT extended cab cherry red truck Baught on my own with loan. Durring college I converted it from TPI to EFI and put a ATI procharger setup on it. Couldn't keep tires on that thing. Put way too much money into it. The Posi, tranny and brakes in a that truck took a beating.
My mom still tells me to stop modifying my cars.. . It's never ending. She took it rather well that I road raced my car the other weekend. My dad asked me when I was going back < go figure :)
