View Full Version : Stuck bolt!!!!

Okay, I have taken off my front suspension with ease and the drivers side rear without a problem but my passanger side is being a bitch! The bottom bolt on the control arm will not come off, I know its just supposed to slide out like the other side did, but its just stuck. When I try and turn it, it feels like its stuck on the bushing and just spins back, which it shouldnt because theres a sleeve where it slides in and out. I have hit it with a sledge hammer countless times and have gotten nowhere. The only other thing i can think of to do is heat it up!?

either that or new control arm by taking out the other two bolts
then you can drill that bolt out, but you'll need some new bushings

OR

you can drill it in, then with the momentum, drill it out, in, out, etc. GL

heat it up or you can try hitting it on it's side more, or just a combination of both and it should come out...good luck! p.s. that's why it's nice to have a newer car so things aren't rusted and stuck; but I feel your pain:hithead:

aahhh...the old stuck bolt in the control arm, the universal problem with hondas. heat it cut it drill it but dont break it then you'll need a new bushing and bolt, which i have some bushings btw.

btw is your suspension going to replace the stock honda strut? if so then you wont have that problem again but if not, then cut off the self locking nut on the stock strut and get a new nut, so its not self locking anymore. ive done so many suspensions before if you need help pm me. i have a torch and air tools. all that good stuff.

Yeah i feel retarded! I have done a thousand times more complicated things and the problem i run into is a stuck bolt...gay... :hithead: I am using air tools which makes it easier but i guess not easy enough. I will probably try and drill it out and if i ruin the bushing i may just get some new and improved control arms.
Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

Yeah, I had Joe do mines for me :toothless

just don't forget to grease up the bolts before you put them in so they don't lock up...

To prove the point, this happened similarly to my civic when I was changing to the SRR LCAs & new suspension setup:

One side done...

Glad I had new LCAs because I had to basically destroy the old one when the bushing keep twisting.

that's my line foo!

I already told you how I got mine out, I had to cut 2-3 of them with a sawzall, and the other ones I heated up with a propane torch, and used an impact gun to get out. Took me about 6 hours all together:thumbsdow

if you are going to lower a honda or replace the suspension on one in the state of iowa, be prepared to replace two if not all three lca bushings, bolts, and find new nuts. Rule of thumb. Just cut out the old bolt, drop the whole LCA, and get a new bushing pressed in. Be glad the nut on the other side is still reusable. Then, generously lubricate each bolt with copper anti-sieze and insert.

ya it happened to my civ but luckly we have a machine shop in town that guys presed it out after we strip teh head of the BOLT Off, cause it did, didnt meant it but it cam off:spoiled:, anyway he pressed it out for 10 bucks and i got a new bolt for 2 :D so it wasnt as bad , and i didnt need to wait a week if i had to order shit, it was done the same day :D

i read some articles, tah u just cut the bolt and press it out wit the clamp thin on ur work bench, and get new bolts, saves u time and dont cost that much, the bolt i had were like $1.87, :D

hmm good luck with that

saw-z-all works best. GRADE 10+ bolts only. Honda sells them for $5.83 online + shipping or go to Fastenal (Delaware & E. Euclid) and get the right bolt...tell em you need grade 10.

if you cut the bushings....you will have to get new control arms, get some used stock control arms, or buy new bushings get the old ones pressed out, the new ones pressed in which is gonna cost you about the same money as if you just bought brand new control arms....

heating it up will definitely help. Did the same thing for my friend's Honda. Worked like a charm.
