Well I went with my friend who wanted to test drive a 02' rsx-s and it redlined and the vtec was pretty loud. Now I am new to the k20 engine and was wondering, the only thing the car had performance wise on it that I could see was a injen intake system. Now here's my question... My 02' rsx-s is all stock and it won't really let me redline, I mean it will come pretty close to it but I think because of emissions it will self-protect itself and will not create the power to match the rpm's. I really doubt that the intake alone made a difference but would a different ecu like a honda data make a difference like that? And remember I am new to the k20a2 engine!

remeber this.. Hondas gauges get inaccurate this higher the reading is..

The one my buddy and I test drove had the power all the way up to redline. Mine seems to protect itself at around 5,000 or so and it redlines at 8,000 rpm's.

wat the pho....ur confusing me

ur saying u cant rev ur car past 5000 rpm?
rsx-s....when ur on a complete stop, 1st gear, the car wont let u rev past vtec point which is 5.9 rpm i think..

if ur on a roll and u cant rev past 5k rpm.......sumtin wrong with ur engine budd

I can redline it to 8,000 but it feels like after 5,000 or so it will not hsve anymore power like the vtec is not kicking in. I need to find some more rsx owners that can tell me what theirs is like stock and if the years have anything to do with it!

aite, lets see, if your car is getting weaker as the rpm's are getting higher, than you need to get that shit looked at, either your vtec is not engaging properly or its all in your head, cuz when i take my shit to fuel cut off, which is a little pass redline, it only gets stronger as it gets there, no car should get weaker when vtec kicks in. and yes a intake on a rsx type s can change it completely, they can gain up to 20 whp from just an intake, oh yeah btw if you bought a hondata K-pro ecu and put it on your car, you can pretty much set your redline where you want it, but it would be pretty pointless unless you have mods such as internals or bolt-ons, because you have everything else stock so the stock ecu is meant for those stock parts so you are all ready getting the performance needed out of those parts. so to answer your question, no the rsx doesnt have some kind of emission control after a certain rpm, it should get stronger through out the power band, if its not doing that then your car is broke, btw another thing vtec engages at a different point when giving it partial throttle, then when giving it full throttle, but im still not all clear on your question, but i hope i answered your question or atleast gave you some kind of idea.

Well, It could be your use to your friends RSX-S with a cold air intake. Which will make the VTEC crossover alot LOUDER and WAY more noticable. A stock RSX-S you don't really notice the VTEC crossover as much or at all because the K-Series powerband and crossover is smoother.

If that's not the case, then check these....
1.)Car is fully warmed up needle is about half of the temp. gauge.
2.)You can't redline in neutral, unless your moving.(rev limit is 5,500rpm in neutral.)
3.)You have correct oil pressure, or oil at all.

That's all I can think of right now. I know my tach is off, it lets me rev to about 8,300-8,400rpm and the rev limit is 8,100rpm. I'm stock BTW.

Alright! Well I took my rsx-s out tonight and let the temp warm up and chaecked my oil level(fine!) I hit I-80 and stepped on the gas all the way and I started to hear a vrooom and the vtec kicked in hard and pretty loud for stock! I guess I was reluctant to beat on my new car and because of that I was confused! I can have momentary dumb ass!!! lol! Well I guess I should have got on my car sooner! Thanks for the advice guys and I am enjoying the site!
