Since the mitsubishi forum seems kinda dead i thought i would ask what everyone thinks about the upcoming Evo X? Will it perform like other evo's, or has mitsubishi fucked up by getting rid of the 4g63 and manual transmisson for a dual-clutch auto/manual transmission? or :thumbsdow

they added weight and they should go with a 4G64 with forged internals instead of the 2ltr.. .
the car will be fast and nibble as usual. The Evo 8 9 MRs didn't get the highest remarks for an extrememly ballanced car for nothing.. . The X will need a couple years to work out the kinks.
I don't know what's up with the tranny?? I thought the 6spd manual would still be an option? I think they are trying to grab more Customers other than us extreme CAR guys.. . Goin for middle upper class folk that want AWD and mad speed.. .
The New Suby Hatch looks nice although I'm not sure how much rubber u can stuff under those wells. I want atleast 255s when pumpin 400whp.. . I boiled 225s with my Eagle Talon.. .

The newest information makes the Evo X look a lot better.
Y'all need to keep in mind, the ev-oh is Mitsubishi's flagship - everyone doubted the MIVEC setup on the IX's and they were wrong, before that S-AYC skeptics talked trash and again, they were wrong...
The Evo X while heavier still has a base model RS which only weighs 3130 lbs, my IX RS weighed in at 3119 from factory, so thats not too bad IMHO.
Time will tell, but I have faith that the Evo X will be quite impressive. Positive attitude always helps, ya know!?! :roflmao:

people, I just read in that forum post from above, no need to read up there.. .
Just wait for the latest magazine that says, HERE IT IS!!!
The only thing I got from that forum post was that someone reposted a magazine article saying how american racers/instructors like the 06 RS better than the 05 MR and GSR.
IMO, let the track prove true.. . I beat EVOs in a Civic :roflmao: GETRDONE!
now don't get your panties all up in a bunch, it's very much the drivers part and well.. . I don't exactly have riced out civic either.. .

Were the fuck did tihs civic vs Evo comparison come from? We were discussing the Evo X and I posted up some info. Sounds like someone has a complex of some sort.... You beat Evo's in your civic - OMFG - congratz! I think a freakin Pinto can beat your civic if it had a better driver out there and I think there are better drivers out there.

Well for one, if you can grasp the main idea I stated in the first part of my post, forums are horrible places to get the latest greatest info and also my point of letting the track tell it's story.. . If you read the forum post there is a lot of talk about what evo is better on the track and what all the options and weight are going to do for the car on the track which is what counts in my book.
Heavier car with a little more horsepower more electronic control, no manual 6spd, bigger tires.. . Track dogs said they liked the light and limited option EVO 8 RS better than the MR.. . We'll C what they think of the X. I just state that these EVO MRs are not GOD as a well setup civic can beat them around a track, novice driver vs novice driver.. .
Let the track tell.. . The new C6 LS2 Corvette is glued to the track, the c5 LS1 needs a better driver to get the same results even with the same horsepower. Did Mitsu actually make a better track car or a more "Public" friendly car.. . we'll C. The WRX Sti improved from what I can tell.
I think the car looks too much like a Sedan. The Fender flares need to be more defined like the past Evos. The fender lines are what has always made STis and EVOs stand out from the Sedan crowd and look aggressive. This X just has a wicked nose that looks terrible in Two tone black/white but better in base black or red. The rear is cool but the side is little to be desired in my book.

There's always a better driver and always a faster car. It's all about the smiles accross the face going on and off the track.
Bring your pinto to the track, I'd like to see it in my rear view mirror :toothless

Can I have a straight line race at a track?

Granted different classes but this was my VERY FIRST time ever doing something like this. I come from the straight line world. Besides I think I can do SM or BSP anyway. I'd have to dig into the rule book though. I just got tossed in a class since it was my virgin trip and I didn't care either. I just wanted to give this sport a try.
I don't know how this got so off topic but just so you know there are not so good things going around the road racing community about you. I've talked to several people who say you drive recklessly, hit porches, and etc. I believe the reason you pass so many people is because they are afraid to battle you because you show no control.
If you were behind me, I for sure would let you by, if I go by the word on the street, as I don't want my car getting hit by some 10+ year old civic. Insurance doesn't cover track accidents and most people are going to be out a lot of money if you run into them. I'd definitely be giving you space if we were in the same run group. I've actually heard of people skipping their run because you were on the track and they didn't want to risk having their car wrecked.
I've got no issues with you but it always seems like your talking yourself up. Again this is all hear say though as I've never seen you at a HPDE event. I hear nobody else talking you up though.
I think your an alright cat, but you need to realize when to talk shit and when not to.
As far as the Evo X goes. I thought it would suck when it first was shown off. However the more info that comes out the more I kinda want one. 6spd only though none of this magic slush box shit.

Heavier car, but more power, sir! Its said to put over 320 ft/lbs of torque per the dyno figures from a shop overseas. Also, everyone knows the Evos handling comes from the ACD control which is electronic, the S-AYC is built upon this. If you read that thread I linked above, the Evo X RS is said to weigh 3130 lbs, my IX RS weighed 3119. Thats not a huge difference. Other cars like the M3 weigh a lot too, they do dang well on the track...STi's have the adjustable diff control as well which helps them corner on the track
A well setup civic against a stock Evo, right? Let a person spend the same money on a well setup civic (I assume you are talking about yours, as always) on an Evo MR and then lets see. The Evo has more potential than any freakin Civic, even after a swap. You start modding the Evo and end of story - So, please don't compare the two cars, dude. The Evo and STi are in a different class of its own.
Have you seen proto pics of the STi hatch? It has the same fender flares on the front as the Evo that terminate outside the body and have vents.
I am not a fan of the new bodystyle either, but I think it can be made to look good. Plus, track cars are generally ugly and fast....
I am a die hard mitsu guy (having owned over 10 gvr4s, 2 TEL's and 2 Evos), but I have owned enough Hondas ( S2000, 4 GSR's, 3 hatchbacks, 2 coupes etc). I am not BSing either. Heck, I had a CRX witha B16 in 1998 - when hasport was still Honda Auto Salvage and Brian Gillispe and I would talk over the phone. He even sold me a DA GSR rear disk brake conversion. So, please don't lecture me on Hondas - I know what Hondas are capable of and will own one for a daily driver or reliability - but for racing, I'll stick to a mitsu - they break but they go like hell. I guess you have to pay to play and I can afford to do that.
Again, my original post before you started a pissing contest was just that the Evo X looks to be promising from new info which are from Japanese magazines with detailed specs. I have no idea why you had to start shit up!

As for the Evo X, I'd have to see it in person before giving a good opinion. I hate to see them make so many changes, but that's what happens to all cars. Good or bad, it's just a car like anything else. Some will love it, some will hate it.
As for civic vs. evo, it's all good fun. 2point knows me, we had a bast last weekend at MAM

As I mentioned in the last post from MAM...
2Point, let me drive your car, I'll put your time a few seconds in the rear view mirror!!! I wouldn't be braggin' too much about those times you're turning in!
But in all seriousness, the Evo stock for stock will beat the Civic. Similarly modded, the Evo will beat the Civic. The Civic is a car that can make a decent driver look really good. I should take that back, and say that FWD cars can make a decent driver look really good. I should know, I came from FWD, went to RWD, and found out you CAN'T drive them the same. At the local autocrosses, I competed for overall FTD's in my old coupe. The first time I autocrossed my old man's FRC, I spun. You can throw a FWD car into a turn, and get away with it.
AWD cars I don't have a ton of experience racing, so I won't post up info that I don't know. But from what I've seen, and witnessed, a well set up EVO with basic BPU's can outhandle most anything on the road. Yes, I will say it... A well set up EVO will out handle a well set up Corvette. I said it!

Nice dig on me Prez, much appreciated :thumbsdow.. . Tires mean a lot. period.
Whomever is talking smack about my driving. . . It is what it is. I think did pretty well out there last weekend. Everyone goes off track once in a while. Unfortunetly I dropped a tire and spun, barely hitting that porsche which had virtually no damage at all. I recal a few other people going off track at MAM last weekend as well. 2 rx7s, WRX, the s2000.
When I was at HPT with the porsche club last year and a few people actually got into wrecks not invovling other cars. Tracking your car is a serious sport and I take it very serious.
Tim, I know you can kill me at the track with your EVO. Using the trackmate would be cool

Whiteshadow - test drives are a possibility. Learnin is the name of the game. I hope to get some instruction and feedback from others on my driving and my car's setup the next time I'm out there.. . 2 of the last sessions were not timed for some reason. I'm pretty sure I crushed that 1:53 but it doesn't really matter. I learned some more and I had fun.

My dig on you was not to be mean. My tires are street tires so I am confused on that one(like I said I am a n00b.). I was just trying to point out you shouldn't talk so much trash as it can come back and bit you. My dig was meant to bring you back down to earth. It just seems anytime I have spoke with you, it's always about how much better your are than others.
I think your a cool person and enjoy seeing you out, but just wanted to show you that talking yourself up constantly is not something that should be done. Don't get me wrong we all like to brag but there is a time and place, and it's not all the time.
I'll be the first to admit I suck at corners, and am not the best at straight line but I go out there and have fun and what happens happens.
Unless those cars your passing are talking shit constantly who's to say they may be a newbie, or just out to learn. It's not always a competition.
I look forward to seeing you out. I hope you don't hold this against me, as I didn't mean to "dig" on you.

I'm with Prez here, I'm not trying to rip on you 2point. At the same time I don't like to see really arrogant people at the race track. Those are the fun ones to beat, because they always come up with an excuse.
I'll be the first to say, I'm not the fastest out there. I've done well at the local level in SCCA, and at the national level with the NCCC. I do enjoy getting fast times, but more than anything I enjoy the friendships that I've gained through racing. I've met some of the most entertaining and loyal people in my life through the Corvette Club. I don't feel like I'm part of a club with these people, I'm part of the family. In March, I attended our region's banquet in Sioux City. I was there on my own, and had planned on taking off as soon as the banquet finished so I could have Sunday to relax back in Ames. I had three or four people approach me and offer their homes for the evening begging me to stay. I knew these people well, and knew their homes would be... more than adequate to say the least... but felt tickled to death that they would even offer. Again, it's a family.
So to sum up what I just tried to say, you'll make a TON more friends by being modest, and not placing yourself on a pedestal. There will always be someone who will rain on your parade, at any level.
On a side note, you can be my friend!!!! :bye: :toothless

Yes, you have and we have chatted quite a bit, Ryan. I didnt know who you were when you made the 1st post about civics and Evos above, but then some searching and PM's I recieved let me know who you were.
For the record, I never questioned your driving skills till you started to sound like you are the "man". I never once said I could beat you either, all I said is that there are better drivers out there. I am about the friendliest guy and earth, I think the community of import guys in this town can vouch for that. Also, I don't ever dish out the attitude till I am given it, man. We are a small community as it is and I don' think bickering is the best thing for us....
And I know a lot about Evos and Hondas, so I take it personally when you start comparing a civic to the Evo. You have a cool car and you can be proud of it and all, but being a little more realistic is all I would ask for. I don't bash STi's and I could, but I respect them for what they are. The Evo and STi both have their flaws and I will admit to those as well...
I think you are cool and all, just chill a little with the attitude. Like you said, let your driving do the talking - not your mouth.
Drive safe out there and have fun!

tracking your car is a serious sport. shit happens and I've seen it everytime I've been to the track.. . tracking is not for the faint hearted and yes, I do agree, beating or laughing at people that talk the smack is funny.. . I just digged myself, oops... . Friendly competition is always welcome in my book.. . .
it pretty much sucks that I brought this on myself as I c myself on the computer at 5:17am :roflmao: I do talk, its fun.. . I do need to learn to shut up sometimes. Tracking gets me excited and I'm pumped that my car felt so different out there than it has in the past, a good thing.. . Hard work has paid off and my car feels fast but I know it is faster.. . I'm sure you have all been there before.
On the 2nd HPDE I ever attended I was passed from group II to group III and soloed. early, I think so, but TWO instructors trusted me to drive out there. I know the flags and I showed my instructor what was needed I guess. One was a racer, another was like basically a race cheif at HPT which rode with me on the track and had fun, even in the rain.. . His first track car was a CRX. Some people trust me and I guess some people don't.
Face to face at the track I'm all about gettin it done the right way. If I'm screwin up, tell me, I'm always open for discussion. If I gotta be digged on, well so be it.. . I aint gonna eat your babies but ya might catch a mouth full when you screw up.. .
just so everone is clear on this, I wrecked at MAM last year. I hit a late 80s porsche SC going like 60 mpg sideways on turn 6 bc I was getting out of his way and got out of my racing line dropping rear tire off the track. ROOKIE MISTAKE!! I was checking my mirrors entirely too much that day b/c I was slow and there was a LARGE mix of experience on the track. I'm still alive, so is he, and we both still track our cars
on another note, EVOs are cool, I actually wish I had one, yes I said it, I actually wish I could have one and even if it wasn't paid off, I'd still take it to the track b/c they are blast to drive. I miss my 300whp eagle talon and it's 4 wheel drifts.
The reason I own a civic is b/c of one race I went to at VIR Virginia International Raceway. A NASA event. I talked to the coolest group of guys I have ever met, some Honda challenge racers. The guy that was winning was driving a K20 swapped Civic Si , Chad Slagg, and from there I knew my goal.. . Get the car, the motor and get on the track.. .
I was always against honda until I went to the track that day.. .

turn 6 was the wreck.. .
I know that transition. on my last two sessions on SAT. I learned not to use my brakes around 11 as I didn't really need to with the amount of grip my 225s give me. I"M at the top of third(8500rpm) right before 9, ~85 according to a gear calculator I use. I barely brake when there is no one in front of me, turn in, hit the apex and then brake hard before that lefty 10. I stay real tight on 10 riding the gators and stay track left as much as possible after the turn.
I thought I was rippin that section and 12.13 up real nice by the end of they day. About the same senario going into 12, redline 3rd, barely touch the brakes and bonzi 13 with brakeing. on 9 I should probably be in 4th and down shifting but that is a lil more bizzy on the gears than I want to be without prize money on the line.. .

You might want to run 10 a little different... I always let the car drift out to the right on the exit of 10. I usually put the whole car on the gators on the left, then let it track out to the gators on the right. That's the way I ran it in the Corvette and Miata, and for the SCCA races I was in, that seemed to be the line everyone took through those turns, you can carry a ton of speed there. That's why I usually give up a little bit going into 9, and let the car drift through 10.
Just my personal opinion! Depending on your speed, you can usually flat foot 12, straighten the car, and brake hard for 13. I've done it a couple times in the Corvette, it's definitely on the edge, about like sailing down to turn 2 at St. Louis!

yeah, doing what you said works to for me to on the 9,10 thing. There was a lot of debris on the track from raining and there were cones right at the track out spot after 11, probably why I remember doing it the way I said b/c my car is understeer master if you are goin in too hot.
12,13 yeah flat footing could be an option for me there I think. I just gotta muster up the balls to do it :toothless
