hey guys out there know WAY more bout car than i do, i just started, and its summer so i have a prject car, already got the pain job and drop in D15 in few days, but some kid is selling me his turbo pretty cheap so i mihgt buy it, its a stock eclipse or talon turbo, i think its 13g, so i wonder if it is safe to turbo with my single cam. i kinda wanna my car to last but push lil but more power into it, so i wonder:
1. how will my engine wear out, quick or somwat slow
2. will it affect my gas mileage for daily driver, its kinda my daily driver tilll i get my new engine
3. get me some idea wat shuld i do with my civic
THANKS aalot guys peace

well of course if you add any kind of performance part your gas will tend to run a little more rich the more you mod...and any turbo/supercharger will put more strain on an original NA(naturally aspirated) car but if the build is done correctly with a good tune then I see no problem having it as a daily driver just as long as you don't beat on it all the time...:teeth:

It all depends on how you drive. If you beat on it, of course your mpg will drop drastically. If you take care of it like you're supposed to, it won't/can't drop too much.
For instance, I bought my Civic pretty much stock except for being on H & R springs. I got 25-30mpg ON THE HIGHWAY on the cheapest gas. Then I threw on an SRI and exhaust, started using premium and I'm now getting close to 50 mpg on the highway/daily driving/etc. I don't know how it was possible but it is.

Judging by the questions you just asked , i would say NO you shouldnt put a turbo on your car.
You should insted do several hours of reaserch then , decide yourself if you want to do it.
Cheap+turbo=doesnt work
So in otherwards you better be "baaaaaalin"

You don't need to be ballin'. You just gotta be smart about your decision to turbo.

SRI=short ram intake...and if you want good gas mileage than stay away from the turbo...it's not much fun unless you turn up the PSI...you sound like you need to do some more research before investing in anything...just my two cents:thumbsup:

either way your car is still going to get alot of mpg since it is such a small motor and i agree with everyone else it sounds like you need more research

trust me. i had a d15. you can get crazy gas mileage out of them. but if your looking for power.walk away for that motor. dohc vtec is the key. and when talking about mad vtec talk to anyone but mike lol jk. no but really dont.

ok, u guys think i should just stick with good gas mileage, till i get like a B16 or 18? wats a good combo to make a car pretty fast but reliable too, i heard Ls Vtec is not very reliable at all... well get mme some ideas, imm not hard core racer, just want some decent speed

LS/VTEC can be reliable if you build it the right way. I know someone running LS/VTEC-Turbo (Swift from Eurotic Import Racing) and he's had no problems. In fact, he won Battle of the Imports at Joliet in '06. The vid is on YouTube somewhere. Lemme find it for you.
EDIT: Found Swift vs. Hatch at BOTI 06 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0Fxq1cKP1c&mode=related&search=)
I believe that was the final run of the day with Bill lucking out on the win.
And I know someone who'll also be running LS/V - T pretty soon here

you want power but yet good gas mileage. nothing like a D16. sure dohc is better and faster. but i have a D16 in my civic. it does its job. plus it will swap right in and you can use that D15 tranny. to many people doubt the power of the D.
first: search a little on turbo kits.
second: work on getting a D16.
third: find a decenlty price turbo kit, mainly a Greddy one. stay away from ebay unknowns
fouth: buy a tuning device, i would say uberdata would work becuase 10psi isnt bad on stock
fifth: assemble it all together while its not in the car
sixth: save money for dyno time and make you sure you have the right gauges
seventh: swap it dyno it and drive it

Fast, reliable, cheap: two can always be true, but never three
You want to go fast, you'll have to make sacrifices, inc. good gas mileage
i drive a dc2

meh...thats why I had the dc...boost = bigger injectors = more fue l= more air= more money=more vaginas = It's worth it...unless you don't wrap it then you get aids and die and thats not cool. ever.

DOHC VTEC is where all the power is at these days, but it's also expensive. There are some really impressive SOHC's out there, and with the right setup the single cams have pushed more Torque than the DOHC.
There is a guy here local running 11.2's consistant on a boosted SOHC setup. Given it's in a gutted EF, on a slick tire.
But, he is running a block guard on STOCK SLEEVES. 22psi and just above 400whp.
If I were you I would do LOTS AND LOTS of research.. There are guys around here daily driving a complete JUNKYARD setup on a STOCK SOHC making right above 200whp. This is on stock internals. Single cams are cheap so we just boost them till they blow, buy another one and repeat the process.
Tuning is key.
