Let's improve our forum

One of the biggest sections we have are within the Marketplace Forums now, along with the sections under Miscellaneous Forums. What can we do about the other sections such as Manufacturer and Technical forums? Are they too vague/general? Which sections would you propose? What can be done? Ideas. Let's hear it.:thumbsup:

Re: Let's improve our forum

I think it would be a bit sleeker to not allow posting in the parent forum of the Manufacturer Tech areas. A lot of these can be posted in their proper forums.

A lot of these threads go over looked because they're at the bottom of the page, and it appears that you would need to direct to a child forum to see the threads. I think a "General Tech" or catch all child forum would be nice.

Also, thanks for the wheels and tires section

P.P.S - I still think you should let me mod the For Sale Forum :teeth:

Re: Let's improve our forum

Han,

I was also looking through the forums and realized I did not see any "Thread Tools" link.

What would be nice is if we had a report thread option. Within that option would be a series of "Issue Types", in which you could "report" or more or less MAKE NOTICE, of a thread in an improper location; Thread posting not following guidelines, etc.

Rather than the mods hopefully sweeping the forums and catching the threads, it could send y'all the info of what forums are in question. I know we have a "Report User" link, but thats for spam, ads and fighting.

Of course, with this would also come the responsibility of users not abusing the link, i.e. it would track which user is sending the links. I don't really see it being abused for the wrong reasons, but it would DEFINITELY help you and the moderators, and make your jobs much simpler.

Example: I noticed y'all migrated most of the wheels threads to the new sub-forum. However, there are still a bunch out there that need to be migrated. One click of a button from a user and you would be made aware of that thread. Also, it would help cut down on improper thread useage and non-use of the forum guidelines. As in not posting pictures/contact info, etc.

Brandon,

Underneath your user name, there is a REPORT button.

More mods or more active mods that frequently check new postings

this forum is already gone, its not about how the forum is set up, its the people who are on it, very few people actually get on here that are "building" seems most are on here just to buy/sell/trade parts an cars, jus my opinion though

Would also help to keep the forum going strong if there was some meets actually going on this year,

pull out the Ban hammer and go crazy.

no but really, i think the site is organized quite well. easy to navigate. I don't think its the forum layout that is the problem, i think its the lack of members following rules. Old school justice with the ban hammer will help out a bit.

it'd be pretty neat if new members only had access to the rules and had to take a test on them and score at least a %95 to get limited access, then he'd only be allowed access to the intro and tech area. wouldn't be allowed to post until he has contributed some sort of tech article or show'd his worthyness... .... i had a dream about this the other day.

Don't worry, I'm working on it it. Hard to tell that's what I'm doing at times but that's the reason I'm here.

Well, I shouldn't say I'm after "forum improvement" necessarily, more of a local scene improvement which in turn should have a positive effect on the forum.

That's the report button I was mentioning that is only for:

"Note: This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts."

Nothing to report guideline abuse or incorrect thread location, etc.

I do, however, agree with more moderators needed. It's clear, no offense, that 4 or so people cannot handle the amount of new posts this forum receives. Especially in the For Sale section.

I'm not the only one who thinks this. It's been surfacing more and more lately. The amount of complaints by other members about not following guidelines while nothing is being done about it, even with evident distraught, makes this forum look childish.

With all due respect, of course. Just my opinion.

This would definitely help out as well. Do y'all have relations to Midwest Exclusive?

This local forum is a definite hotspot for car people. One of the very few local forums. It would be nice to team up and get some meets going. Even free meets. Anywhere where public parking is legal and we keep the noise to a minimum, we shouldn't need a permit.

I don't know a whole lot how those work, but if we can spread the word that we have a good amount of meets hosted from our forums, it could bring more sponsors (revenue), members, activity and more fun for the members as a whole.

Re: Let's improve our forum

Damn. You would figure there would some decent meets. Doesn't have to be a "car show", but something that you could get together with friends or members and collaborate on builds and share stories on builds.

I think that would start to bring this forum together. You see how well Rodnie knows everyone from meeting at shows and events. Imagine if the whole forum was like that. Aside from the expected few dickheads, it would feel more like a community, rather a forum.

People have used that REPORT button to report threads in incorrect places, or new members who are problematic and/or post whoring.

I'm neither for or against more mods.

Ohh hell no you didn't Jesse Jerk....lol ha ha jk

Alright, hate to go a little off topic (which I'll only do now and PLEASE don't make the thread about meets!!)

As far as meets/shows go they are not specifically designed for jdmcity. We just have this forum as one of many venues to post events in. Jdmcity does not hold these events, thus the reason why you don't see it on our banners etc.

There will be some (no definite number yet) for this year and only reason we haven't set anything yet is simple......we all had vacation come up, some needed a break from the "usual" and the rest well....life in general and issues that arise. Patience is certainly something you have to learn to live with or it'll make for a horrible event. It sucks that we live in a state that doesn't cater to our scene and when it does.....somehow it gets messed with by someone or something (mostly weather on this one)

So, for the moment best thing to do is focus on what is right in front of you and help grow it (ConHuevos, chime in on joke please). This forum despite its different personalities still tries to keep going with what we have. I try, you try we all try our best to make it what we want but change is something that takes a very long time. So, instead of ALWAYS looking at the bad side of things try keeping positive despite the BS that usually happens. Just like car trends they spawn a huge gathering and then the 15 minutes of fame goes away til next time.....you just tend to live with it. Florida shows were the same way back then and still happen to have the occasional "personality outburst" that can ruin the event....but in the end it only ruins them....because the show goes on.

Again, sorry for the off topic but wanted to make sure the meets/shows was sorta answered......just chill brah, they comin'!!

Exactly my point on getting things accomplished and having a lot of patience. We try our best to get these put together and not sure if anyone notices how much effort we put into them. In order to keep people in one place you need at least 4 things: main idea (cars), music, food and most importantly YOU GUYS. In the case of Master, he is right......if you can't wait til we get them put together then try it yourself. We go to great lengths to making sure areas we pick are worth our money and time.....which is why we don't like it when someone decides to do a huge extreme burnout, fast pass etc. Leave that stuff for the track because it is essentially the first thing that will get us kicked out of that spot. I mean seriously, I love doing all the too but there is a time and a place for it and at our shows/meets it won't be tolerated.

Anywho, if possible lets move these "meet" comments to the thread the master posted if possible. Do.t like cluttering this thread when it deals with new ways to improve site.

Thanks

lol first things first imma go off ttopic and say rodney i see alot of typing here but no sticker making what the hell man lol

But on topic i agree i think having a few new mods chosen would be great for this site. someone who is active on a daily basis and doesnt have any personal beef with people on here would be perfect.....

And as for the car meet thing i attempted to get something set up but no interest was expressed

We don't need more mods we need active moderators... Andrew is the only one I know of who is active and doing what a moderator should. Ban hammer is an amazing idea, but there's so little members on this forum that it would only be the OG's left lol. If you want a meet, THEN CREATE ONE don't sit around wishing someone would organize something, do it yourself.
