The rest of the manufacturers will have to shift just as well and will end up in the same route. I wouldn't be surprised if Hyundai and Kia start to step up their production of "super cars" that are affordable as well. It is sad to see but it's the way of the land when it comes to auto manufacturing and sales driven individuals.
Super cars as in super green cars?? Ford has had the hot hatch market nailed in europe for some time. Most of the top rally teams in the wrc are riding on focus rs models. I have talked to every ford rep I have been able to get into my earshot and they still say there will be nothing like that brought over here. I was hoping with the Ken Block ad campaign for the new fiesta there would be a hot hatch version, but alas' the hottest thing you can get it manual trans, and even that takes some searching. Face it 20 somethings who are young, dumb, and reckless just dont make up a large enough market..lol europe has some killer hot hatches, guess us americans just love our firebirds with the whip cb antennas and the crager torque thrusts...yeehaw! stars and bars!

LOL pretty much man............I've always wondered why this is so. We are possibly the largest consumer of automobiles in the world yet we get all the shit...lol

Japan is like the "big brother" at the dinner table who gets all the good Steak and potatoes while "little brother America" gets stuck with a peanut butter/jelly sandwich....lol

ITS PEANUT BUTTA JELLY TIIIME. PEANUT BUTTA JELLY TIIME. PEANUT BUTTA JELLY TIIME. but my guess is that the average consumer here is more concerned about both safty and size. most of the vehicles in japan are small work vehicles that are powered by motorcycle engines, but get great gas mileage. plus the fact that the government crash safty laws are so anally tight, its hard to get many foreign cars to pass them.

LOL....It is all that and the fact that Japan has very limited space with parking as well. So much of their vehicles have to be small enough to fit in tight areas. I do agree with ya all the way..........seems all Americans want that MUSCLE but want to have the emssions, air bags, etc, etc........you can't always have the best of both worlds!!

Unless it is Penut butta jelly time!!

bahahaha

but heck look at nissan too.. the new electric leaf for instance. you hear all about it and the versa but absolutely nothing about the new 370z. nobody seems to care about sports cars anymore. we didnt even get gifted with the s15 in '99... sports car sales are in the crapper

not sure about the AWD of the RS but the Focus ST is supposed to be turbo. technically every car ford builds is supposed to be offered with a "ecoboost" option by next year..which ive been stoked on the ecoboost mustang since they announced it in 2009. itd be cheaper than the 6t, get better MPG than a GT and obviously could generate more power easier than a gt.

always thought the focus rs would do good here though.
