I had them on my prelude. When compared to Potenza RE-710's that cost the same at the time, they were not anywhere near the same quality tire. Wear was ok, but they broke cords very easily. For a 225/45, that should not be happening. Traction was not good at all either. And I personally do not like the NeoGen's either, but I have never owned them.

Really, when it comes down to it, tires are like condoms. Everybody has a preference, and they all work to an extent. As long as you are working within their limits, they won't leave you in trouble.

That makes sense, I think I'm just going with the 205/50 Falken Azenis RT-615

The 615's were rated a #1 auto-x street tire for many years by GRM. And I still think the best tire for the buck. I have not driven on the RE-11's, but I have a soft spot for Bridgestone ever since my Prelude days.

Bridgestone > All. Coming from fella with RT's and RE's. The RE11 is really noisy and raw for daily driving. Personally to save some tire life I would prefer some RE050's if they have your size. Goodluck Sir-----

Wrench Re: Comparing Tires

I'm on 205/50/15 Bridgestone Potenza RE-11's now for daily driving and these tires are amazing tires...Worth Every Penny.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...er=15&x=85&y=8

I've used both of the older model Falken Azenis, (215 & 615) tires for dd/autox and they were decent...but I can tell are not nearly as good as the RE-11's.
It appears that VulcanTire.com can still get the RT-615's for $70 but they are currently on back-order until mid August so if price is the main issue...I'd hold out for them if I were you. http://www.vulcantire.com/cgi-bin/tiresearch.cgi
Remember...when ordering tires online...don't forget to figure in the mounting and balancing price at a shop. It's usually between $60-80 unless you know someone who can hook it up.

I've also used the Dunlop Direzza DZ101 tires for dd/autox and I don't think TireRack.com has them classified correctly, (Ultra High Performance Summer), because they are far from that. The sidewalls are spongy, (I literally put like 45psi in them at solo events) and they still had tons of roll-over...decent grip...but again...not even close to the RE-11's. They were also a bit sketchy in the rain. Only plus side to these tires are the $63 price tag on TireRack.com
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...er=15&x=85&y=8

I've had friends who are very impressed with the Kumho Ecsta XS...they seem to be close in contention with the other leaders, (Bridgestone Potenza RE-11, Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec, Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08)

Good Luck & Hope to see you at some local DMVR solo events.

^^ Thanks for all the info. I finally got a GSR tranny so I'll have 2nd gear again. Then I just need to get a wheel/tire setup, tie down my battery and get a helmet. Speaking of a helmet.. where is a good place to get one?

No problem. We have loner helmets if you don't mind a sweaty sloppy seconds dome protector...or you could just get the cheapo open face like I got from www.soloracer.com

Yeah I might just have to rock the 14" steelies with miss matched 185/60 tires for the first 1 or 2 times. They suck so bad though.

just take w/e its roll able, my first 2 runs i didnt even get my tire squeeking lol, those cones look so confusing, i think the next one downtown gonna be worse than newton one, alot more turns and shorter track.

its actually better take crappy tires first time, then when u come back again with good tires, ur gonan appreciate it ALOT more haha.

Haha true

EDIT: Gabe, I've got a few more questions for you about getting my car ready. What psi should I run my tires at? and what would you recommended I set my front and rear camber at? And should I change the toe at all?

Just make sure your tires are properly inflated. 38-40psi would be my guess with that size tire. As for the camber and toe...don't even worry about that.

I switched from 615's to re-11's and the difference is night and day. Re-11's are a hell of a lot quieter and stickier. I can kinda hold through 2nd gear now.... haven't autox yet this year but I'm sure I'll do pretty well compared to last year.

Ok, thanks. What about a 205/50r15 tire? and how do you know if your tires are at the right pressure? is it the feel of them while your out on the course?

There is a max psi warning on the side of the tire. Just don't inflate past that.
