You could probably do it with the head on... but it would be tons easier to take the head off and do it that way. Cams would need to come out, timing belt taken off either way. Its easy to change the seals but lots of work to get it torn down to that point.

If you do it with the head on you will need a way to pressurize the cylinder so the valves dont drop and also a spring compressor that bolts to the top of the head instead of the C-clamp lookin' type.

If oil has been leaking through them for awhile you will probably want to remove the head and have it hot tanked to get all that burnt oil buildup out of there. I imagine the exhaust valves are probably caked with that stuff.

It just started about 2 weeks ago. It's a redneck kid with it that wants to sell it but I'm doing my homework before I buy a car like that. It's really clean no rust pretty straight body with coil overs and a bunch of suspention work.

I would ask to do a compression test first, just to make sure its not the rings instead of the valve seals. I've torn down a few H motors of that mileage with torn up cylinder walls, wouldnt surprise me if that was the case here. You cant always get the whole story from a compression test, it could still have bad oil control rings and make good compression but its something to check out either way.

Any idea how much oil it is burning?
