Default clutch issues need help!!! 98 gst

i got a 98 gst. I've looked on many forums but I can't get a good answer! my clutch feels good when I first start it feels stiff engages at the right level maybe Lil bit to high but once the car warms up the clutch gets stiffer and engages almost to the top till the point where the car won't even move cause the clutch is all the way to the top!! then I can't even start the car like the neutral switch isn't engaging. then when I sit there for awhile with the car off then it will start and drive fine like nothing was wrong??. but when the car is cold clutch grabs fine with boost. and pulls good. I'm stumped I have no idea what it could be.

Is it upgraded? Little more info about the clutch itself and who/where put it on might help a little. Have you checked all the hydraulics? Slave cylinder, lines, is the pilot bearing good that you know of?

I just recently got the car so no info on the clutch or pilot bearing. it had dirty fluid before and the clutch engagment was almost to the floor so I flushed it bled it and the clutch still engaged low to the floor.. so I found out bout the adjustment up at the pedal so I adjusted it and it felt perfect had more pressure to it and engaged where it should. then bout a week later it started acting up when it warmed up. people have said they had the same problem and it was the master cylinder but Idk how that could be and people say there could be air in the line but I bled the system. I might try it again.

id bled again an make 100% sure there is no air, then try changing the master cylinder it could probably use a new one anyways soon.

Any new info?
Did you find a fix? This could be helpful to anyone with a hydraulic clutch.

haven't really had any time to work on it. but I will sometime this week and will post a update. I just don't understand how it will be perfectly fine till it was warmed up then basically the clutch is gone and the pedal is hard as a rock and engages at the top. even when the clutch is slipping you can't even smell it. doesn't smell like a burnt clutch or anything

sure sign if the clutch master cylinder is bad...look up under the dash and see if you can see fluid.

it shouldn't matter what the temp of the car is for the clutch other than the clutch is slipping when it gets hot, but I would think you would smell it.

if your gonna dink around with this, replace the line from the slave cylinder to the master cylinder with a stainless steel line, they are pretty cheap. The stock hose can get worn out and collapse.

Finally, the fork and ball on these are pretty touchy. When I had my 98 GSX I replaced it with new.

Throw out bearing could be trashed.

If your gonna pull the tranny and replace the clutch....don't even think about anything other than an ACT 2100 or 2600. The 2900 will be too much for a stock set up. Even the 2600 is borderline. Remember, the more clutch pressure, the more pressure it puts on the crank. I've talked to a lot of shops and this was what some think caused crankwalk or was at least a contributing factor. I believe it was in 98 that Mitsu redesigned the thrust bearings.

Anyway, I tried about 4 or 5 clutches in my GSX and found the ACT 2600 the best, but keep in mind I was putting down about 400 plus hp to the wheels. I would say the ACT 2100 would be perfect for a stock set up. Didn't care for the lighted flywheel either, went back to a mistu stock flywheel.

You should be able to take a look through the inspection hole, there's a rubber boot to peal back and look. You might see some issues.

thanks I will definitely look into that. I was looking at the act 2100 plans ars to sell the eclipse once the new clutch is put in. yeah I remember when you put those cams in at wrenches I was there with my dad. (owns thAt blue corvette with slicks and blower.) and when you took it out for a test drive the clutch was slipping from the power if I recall. love that gsx! I did check for leaking master cylinder and it wasn't leaking. going to check the lines if those look alright probably swap for stainless steel line anyways when I swap the clutch out.

update put a new clutch in. resurfaced flywheel new throwout bearing slave cylinder. put it all back together double checked everything grounds, bolts. now the car won't crank.. checked starter everything seems good. I think it has to deal with the pedal I think it needs adjusted. doesn't seem like it goes down all the way like it use to a lot more pressure.. bled the sh@# out of the system so don't think there is air just think it not getting the clutch safety switch since the pedal won't go down all the way.

IIRC you can unplug the switch and start it in neutral. Easier on the thrust bearing too. Did this on my laser when I had it and worked just fine.

I'm thinking bout doing it when I get off work. but I want to adjust the pedal a little bit before. it probably way off since I was having problems before and was messing with it.

when I took my old clutch out it was a six puck but it was done. took in the flywheel to get resurfaced and the guy asked me if this was for a track car cause it looks beat up. lol but it was still good and came out looking fresh. I'm hoping this solves my problem.
