Default Can someone tell me why my check engine lights on?

So i just got a 2000 Legacy Gt Wagon 2 weeks ago and the previous owner told me the check engine light would come on and he did but he said it was an O2 Sensor but when i hooked it up to a programer it said something about catalytic converter is that the same thing or did i just get into something more serious besides the light being on it shakes a little bit when im stopped at lights but the engine doesnt knock is that the brakes sticking. if someone could help me it would be greatly appreciated.

More than likely a failed O2 sensor after the CAT letting you know it is bad. Let me know and I can price for you.

I can get a Denso that works for a OEM replacement.

Take it to autozone when the check code shows up... They will hook up and it will show them what code the check engine light is for... It's free... But its most likely what was said above!! They can only read it while the check engine light is on also FYI...

i think on this the front oxygen sensor is actually an air/fuel sensor, and if that's bad it will make the car run like shit. have seen the air/fuel sensor bad without code. but if the code says it's cat efficiency below threshold then you most likely have a bad cat, but it could be a faulty o2 sensor after the cat. but even then you should also get an o2 code.

Okay thanks guys i think i've found some new ones online i can't believe how much cheaper is it do it yourself than pay someone to do it and i learn something new from doing it myself.
