Default Front main pump?

Going to possibly look at a car tomorrow, owner says it leaks a lil from the crankshaft seal a little. generally speaking, whats a rough estimate of costs of parts and repair for a fix? looking to get me a cheap yet reliable winter car that i dont have to turn into a money sink

well to do a crankshaft seal it takes 3.2 hours (plus combination time for timing belt & water pump) for the fwd and 4.5 hours for the awd. and since you have to take off the timing belt, you might as well replace the timing belt and it's components (not just the belt!!!!). if the belt has been done recently, i suppose you could reuse it. and i do believe the timing belt runs the water pump like the honda's on this one so you should replace it as well since the labor guide gives 3.5 hours to a water pump by itself. And since it's over 3 hours to do the camshaft seal you might consider doing that as well, since again the timing belt has to be removed.

Parts: price is dealer list from Mitchell 1 so the prices may vary when you call. and don't assume that because they are dealer prices that they are automatically higher than the parts store. plus you give them the VIN and you KNOW the parts will work. I have found that seals of this type from the parts store can frequently be wrong.

Parts:
timing belt, $38.32
timing belt tensioner/roller, $108.77
crankshaft seal, $10.00
timing cover gaskets (may not need these), $68.07 for three
water pump, $110.00
camshaft seal, $7.38
coolant, $20

so lets assume it's 4.5 hours of labor at $80 an hour, this should come in at around $770. keep in mind i used dealer retail, shops will probably mark that up.

ps, that doesn't look like a $1300 car to me, more like $600

i re-read the craigslist ad........why in the fuck did they do a new timing belt and didn't take the extra 30 minutes (at most) to do the seal? because they didn't have the proper tools to remove the crank pulley? and did they replace the water pump?

thank-you very much for calling, but i'll take a pass on this one.

Yeah, just read that today since I've been a little busy.............but damn jojo, that is one beat up daily. Anytime Craigslist ads have the words: not extremely bad, like new, little paint needed, and little rust............walk away buddy.

The price on that car is $1300.......which means he wants to get back what he paid and whatever repairs he did to the vehicle while he has owned it. I can surely agree the car is worth at least $600..........and that is really stretching that dollar.

.....walk away man.........walk away....lol
