Default Violent steering wheel shake

I have an IS300 and when I hit speeds of 50mph or more the steering wheel starts to shake. I did some research online and people say its the rotors that are warped. Some say its the wheels and others say its the tie rod ends. I was thinking its the tie rods but not sure now. I don't know too much about cars and don't really know what to look for to check it out myself. Any ideas what could be the issue? Car is lowered too.

The rotors will not effect anything unless the brakes are being applied. Check your tires, make sure they are good. Jack up the front of your car and try moving the wheels side to side with the steering wheel locked. Could be a number of things.. Even unbalanced tires could cause this to happen.

Much like Tommy suggested there are a lot of possibilities but not necessarily brake related. You are more then welcome to get a hold of me via PM and I can take a peek at it over the weekend for ya.

How bad is it shaking? Does it do it in town or just once you hit 50+? How old are the tires? There could be a number of things wrong, and unless you can visually see that your rotors are warped, it's not that unless you hit the brakes. Here's what's most likely wrong

1.mild shake at 50+ mph=Tires are out of balance by a decent amount
2. Severe-violent shake at 50+ mph=your rim is most likely bent and/or your tire is over 3 oz off balance
3. Mild shake in town below 50 mph=rim could be bent or tire is starting to separate
4. Severe-violent shake below 50=tire is separated and needs replaced

A tie rod end usually makes it pull to one side depending on which one is more worn (if both are). Take it to a shop and have them check out your tires and tie rod, as most will do it free of charge, while to balance the tires runs anywhere from $30-$50 (my shop does it for $30 I think unless you just want to rotate them too, which is $50).

Quick Update:

Found passenger tire in dyer need of a new one.....wires were starting to show. Also has the beginning of wheel bearing failure on the same side.....driver side spins free.....while passenger stops within just a few turns. Soooo, he is getting a new tire on passenger side today and I am pricing out some Timken Wheel bearings for him.
So far I am having only luck with one side (which can fix the passenger) but it is ALWAYS recommended to do both at the same time if funds permit it (just like balljoints, brakes etc.)

Kinda a tiny bit....lol. I have to take it easy and be slow about it since hoist isn't up yet......I am open for a few things though but nothing extreme like tranny jobs or heavy suspension. Once hoist is fully operational I am going to repost on my "IMP USA IS CLOSED" thread and have it is NOW OPEN 100%. If ya need anything feel free to still get a hold of me....

Problem with the slowness is due to low funds from both being closed so long for repairs and I am also putting some funds towards interior house renovations. So once I am back on the cash wagon I can dump back into hoist.....all I have left is to drill, bolt down, put hydraulics together and get power to it.....and once that is all done, I will be testing it with one of my vehicles and implementing some new rules/guidelines about it. I may not be renting it as I proposed originally due to insurance purposes and will keep people from going under it with a swift slap to the head....lol.....you can watch me work but no touchy/feely of the car will be permitted......lol

UPDATE....The patient has survived its new hearts...LOL

Just got done with Tim's wheel bearings and all is "somewhat" good. I found out he most likely still has a tire issue on the drivers side and "possibly" a warped rotor....but I'm sure once he checks the tire it may all smooth completely out. When braking it does tend to shake the steering wheel a bit.

Thanks Again sir for your business and hope that you enjoy your ride up to the 712/515 car meet!!
