Default Mazda miata pros and cons!!

I've kinda been throwing around the idea of getting a miata. One of the early 90s years. I've looked around at ones for sale around town and in other states and have seen some that come with "sport" perks like LSD trannys and other things. I just want to see what people have to say about them like if the cars good bad and why. Thanks!! I'm looking to get one probly in spring.

Small, light weight, can swap to bigger engines reasonably easily.. I'm not quite sure if I have heard of a limited slip differential in the transmission of a front engine rear drive car

Well it its a great platform to work with with many many options. It's almost the Honda civic/s2000 of the Nissan world when it comes to parts, finding stock/aftermarket body pieces and swaps (usdm or jdm). In stock form it is a little under powered and misunderstood.....but so was the civic until the research and development of aftermarket parts took over.

Matt was just giving you shit. He is referring to the LSD being located at the rear of the car, not like if your FWD car has an LSD in it where it would be attached to your transmission.

As far as miata's go, absolutely go for it!!!!! I had one and recently sold her, due to buying my Evo and needing the room in the garage. I promised myself that I would buy one again as soon as it is possible again.

Their motors are rock solid. You said you are looking at older models. That would be the NA chassis, which is what I owned. I had so much fun it that car. It was a blast to drive around traffic, zipping in and out with ease. The autocross course was a blast in it, as well! The car is perfectly balanced and has neutral handling straight from the factory. Obviously, it isn't the most powerful, but the engine revs happily and freely. It begs to be driven over 4k rpms everyday.

There really isn't much to look for when buying one either. I mean you look for your usual signs, oil leaks, old hoses, any smoke from the exhaust, rust, blah blah blah. If none of those things, these cars are solid. Just make sure there are no creases in the rear windscreen. The plastic tends to get old and less flexible and the creases in the screen will eventually crack and split open.

I love these cars and look forward to owning one again. Enjoyed it way more than my s2000. All I can say is: GO FOR IT!!!!!

Yea me and a friend were talking about what cars we wanted and I was thinking about another integra then was like well I do like the miatas and there not to badly priced. Only thing I noticed was alot if them that were for sale say new motor I don't know what it's all about but I'm gonna do my research before getting into one that's forsure.

Thats a 13b rew. 13b from FCs are more common to be swapped. Turbo or NA. They've been done and should have info on how to do it. Its a fun car and you dont need so much power.

If I was to swap a Miata this is how I would do it. This guy is only running bolt ons and maybe a small cam at that power level..

This is a very cool and unique swap!

Why? The weight distribution on the LS1 T56 swapped Miata's tend to be 53/47, which is the same as a stock 350z and ft-86 platform car. I really don't think that changes much over the 50/50 weight distribution with the stock drive train.

Miata motors were used in the Mazda 323 GTX back in the late 80s and early 90s. So the motors in the miata are already ready for boost. So, really there is no need to swap the engine. Of course, those v8 swaps are pretty sweet!

The one I purchased in 2010 had hail damage and the clear coat was peeling on the door. I purchased it for $2600. You should be able to find a good, early model year NA(MY90-MY97) for around $3000. Any NA made from '94-'97 will be more expensive because of the motor change (size bumped up to 1.8L from 1.6L) and optional LSD's available.

I had a 1.6L motor and loved it. High revs, peppy, responsive, and fun! If you are looking for a cheaper miata, I would look for a 1.6L version.

They do!!! But look at it this way....
A newer car (like those turbo things running around) will always make you pay high insurance. Or, lets be honest, anything that comes stock with high HP or a giant wing will make insurance shoot up like a russian rocket. Also higher vehicle registration on that new crap. I have a 94 VR-4 and I can't buy a carton of cigarettes for what I pay in insurance per month. AND ITS FULL COVERAGE!!!!

The Miata is how I fell in love with driving. I remember saying, "dude...its a miata." My buddy smiled, said "get in idiot" and it was over. It is awesome. Throw them into corners, thrash them all day, and that little motor loves LOVES LOVES to rev. Yes they are tiny (so no fat girls can ride in them), they don't have a lot of power (being honest), and they can be girly. Drive one, and it is driving nirvana. They handle like go-karts. Being a Mitsu guy, I am used to driving something that handles stock like a beached whale. Subie's handle nicely, but once you drive the Miata its ridiculious. A buddy of mine in MO races them somewhere.

It's the best selling convertible of all time for a reason. Nearly perfect weight distribution, optional 6 speed on some older ones damn nearl all newer ones, and like that Imports USA guy said, you can do anything with them (just don't tell him I would drive one lol).

I do know they made a turbo version (I'm guessing its called something that contains the words MAZDA and SPEED) but I don't know squat on that.

Oh, and if someone ever gives you shit about them, ask them if their car has their own SCCA racing class.

Wow, I don't know if I have ever said anything that good about a Mitsu even......
