ive searched but havent found much maybe someone on here knows. I got a 01 Forestor with a bad motor and i was planing on just swapping the whole thing out...but ive been told that only the 2001 model fits. And in my area there are 99 00 02 etc but not 01īs. What engines are compatibles? because im sure even if the others are different they can fit with little motification. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Luis |

If I was you I would look for the engine stamp numbers to begin with. Then determin if it's a sohc or dohc. For a little more assurance get part numbers off of things like a water pump or something of that nature and see if there are other compatible years for the parts. I have no clue but I find it kinda hard to believe Subaru would create a motor for a forester that would be exclusive to only one production year. I'm almost positive there's a motor out of a different year forester that will work.

I was under the impression they used the same engines as the Imprezas/Legacy/Outbacks. The 2.5 sohc engine changed in 99 on Imprezas and 2000 on the rest, and they are a little different. A 2.5 from a 2000-2004 2.5rs should work, and a Legacy/Forester/Outback from partway into 2000 to 2004 should work.
