Default popping fuse

Ok my Speedo/alternator fuse keeps popping when I accelerate quickly. It won't pop it when I'm just cruising around just when I get on it.. Any one know why?

cause more load on the engine which increases load on the alternator. I would start by checking the alternator and the wires to the alternator and check grounds.

DO NOT OVER FUSE IT. BY THAT I MEAN PUTTING IN A HIGHER AMP FUSE. THIS CAN CAUSE WIRE TO MELT AND START A FIRE.

I would say that the fuse you replaced was most likely the wrong one to begin with. But let's say it's not.

If your house has a breaker that keeps tripping, would you replace the breaker with a higher amp? I wouldn't because the wires going to that breaker could melt and cause a fire because the breaker never reached it's capacity and therefore did not trip, so the next thing to give is the wire.......viola! you have fire.

A car is the same principle.

There must be a short in the wires somewhere.

i had a similar problem and after carefully looking through my whole harness.... i found out that my shortage was from my o2 sensor. unplugged my o2 sensor and presto... never blew the alt fuse again.

what kind of car is it?

is it a y7 or y8? they are infamous for a short in the wire harness at a certain spot.

check under your intake manifold. right above the oil filter and next to the bracket that supports your IM to the block. theres some wires there. thats where i would check first.

those ek models are infamous for a short right in that spot. i believe theres a blue or green clip back there and the wires rub so much on that bracket that it creates a shortage. thus blowing out your fuse.

is your civic throwing any check engine light codes? if it is... i bet its also throwing out p1298.

i had this problem on my y7. but if you need any help feel free to pm me

My guess is there is a short also. The reason it doesnt pop until you get on it is probably because you are not flexing you engine. Meaning when you get on it your motor is moving back and possibly touching a bare wire shorting out. Just a guess but good luck! Intermittant shorts suck balls!

I was thinking.... since you are using an s300 Hondata...

Did you delete any sensors? example... o2 sensor? knock sensor?

If you did delete some sensors... I would start looking at those sensors for the short.
correct me if I am wrong but there is probably still electric current running through the sensor even if they were deleted. Just the ecu is not trying to read them.

Thats probably why its not throwing any CEL codes.

very good point.

oxygen sensors are a good point since the wires take so much abuse with heat and being exposed to road debris.

does the S300 have any issues with popping fuses? I thought I heard something in passing about that. Like ososlow said, it might be worth a google.

Found it. When i put in the o2 wideband i ran into a wiring mess the previous owner had i thought i had taken care of it but i was wrong. They had cut the original o2 sensor plug off and tried wiring it with speaker wire, but i got all of it taken out this time lots of digging. Thanks guys.

Nice. I had a feeling it was the o2 sensor.

does he have a tps code? if the engine light is on, need to find out the codes. if he's got an oxygen sensor code I would look at the wiring for those. you can also look at the tps wiring.

I'd start with codes.

yeah it is pulling codes but for some reason they arent clearing even when the computer is reset so its hard to tell what codes are old and what it is actually messed up but i will tell him to check the sensor out
