Default awd dyno - no b.s. please

So....on my 3rd mitsu in 8 years and I finally want to start tuning one. Not just bolt on the parts but make them run in beautiful harmony. And produce more power!

But we here in "God's Country" (that's Iowa for all you non-Iowans) are at an extreme disadvantage....there is not an AWD Dyno close.

So....my fellow Mitsu-bitchi owners...where do YOU take your car to get tuned. No backdoor "I know this guy crap." Real shops, who know what they are doing!
And if you mention AMS I will drop kick you. AMS is amazing yes, but its 6 hours away if you DON'T hit traffic.

Fire Away!!!!

P.s......maybe a dumb question but living in Iowa we have winter. Now colder air is denser etc. etc....so would you need to get your car tuned twice a year for maximum power and reliability??? Or will it just run like poo-poo if you tune for winter or summer?

kick me all you want.. but if you know anything, you know that having your car tuned by people who live and breathe that car platform is worth every cent.. thats why AMS is the ONLY place you should take your evo.. if your serious about it that is. 6hrs is a good before and after test... i can think of no way better then to test out your investment then a 6 hr FUN drive back... You know this hobby inst cheap, nor was the platform you purchased.. go to AMS or risk it with poeple who "think" they know what they are doing.

AMS or go home.. even tho they wouldnt tune my vehicle, i would still recommend them for EVO's.. it seems to be the only thing they know inside and out.

your EMS should compensate for baro changes and temp changes.. if its a good EMS.. if its the stock computer, then im sure it will compensate. the only reason to get multi tunes would be fuel type. IE one tune for pump gas, the other for race fuel.. something like that

yes yes we know AMS for EVO's.....but heres the kicker.....VR-4 or DSM???
Haven't heard anything great from anyone regarding those getting tuned in Chi-town.
That place in Kansas City is a subie/toyota speciality shop.

If there isn't somewhere super close that can do the things needed to the VR-4/possible 2nd gen (maybe buying another GSX here soon) I'm going to be making a trek to North Carolina. Not only do they have bbq, moonshine, and rednecks with V8's there but 3SX Engineering is also there. They are apparently the VR4 gods....

I didnt even think.. i just realized you dont have an evo lol! i kinda ssumed from the name that u were refering to an EVO.. lol dsm and vr-4 = same diff.. esp during those years.. eclipse=avenger, vr4=stealth.. its all the same.

Id be willing to bet AMS woulnt tune you.. if its slightly "differnt" then they are not really helpful.. been there done that.. Theres a big vr4 following in WI, perhaps search out some VR4 froums. and ask them..they would be way more knowledgeable then anyone on here..

I wouldn't take my car to AMS. They make great parts but anymore if you don't have a GTR your better off else where. They won't tune dsms last I heard anyway.
What kind of management are you running? There are a couple shops in MN I know of. You will have to drive if you want it dyno tuned.

i am running MSnS stand alone.. and they didnt wanna touch it.. I know they still tune evos, but id have to agree with above, they are getting awfuly selective about what they tune.. oh well no shop lasts for ever.

RS Motors in MN
DB Performance in MN
MAP in MN
MKC in KS
AMS in IL

Those guys can about tune any Mitsu and your fdsm/Evo should be no issue. I would go to MKC or RS Motors if it were my car. Hope this helps!

MKC tuned both of Jeremy's Evo's including his current X. Runs just fine. Chad who owns it owns an Evo (or used to).

Get on midwestevos.com or evomn.net. Your best bet is RS Motors in MN, Ron is a great guy or Chad at MKC.

I'm planning on talking to Ron about doing a new tune on my car in the spring.
He has proven himself on a stock motor/ turbo evo.

MKC is where I go. Chad is real good there and tunes tons and tons of Evos. I'll be heading back there again this March for a another one, after the new goodies are bolted on.

Now just to double clarify....Mike up top doesn't own an EVO any more. He now drives a 3000GT VR-4......so he wants to make sure they can tune that big piggie....lol. His old Evo is the one Todd drives now after it got fixed.

I think the guys at these shops can tune whatever, Rodnie. These tuners are educated and cut their teeth on DSM's and graduated to Evo's. Ron tunes Hondas as well. He built Simpson's old Integra beast. Ron is good shit...The one that smells like roses!

Why not just tune in town? Welded VC and throw it up there FWD. DSM's have been around longer then the AWD dyno has been common.

B.S!!!! Modified by K.C. is probably the closest AWD dyno that I would trust to tune anything. MAP in MN is a great shop too. Little further. 2cents.
