Default A "Free" Marketplace Section

One of our members had suggested this to me. I would like to hear your opinions on this. We have "For Sale" forums for both auto and non-auto parts. What about a "free" section where we can give unneeded parts/items away to others for free? Instead of selling or throwing them away, we can help others by giving away these parts (for small builds, etc.)?

Im going to put my 2 cents into this, for one, have you ever been just that close to finishing, and one small part is needed, but due to your project you run out of money, but wait there is a free section, that possibly has the part, yes i know in your defence, if you dont have money dont do a project, well for some people its hard not to work on cars, its a past time and has been a passion for many over the years, I get tired of seein the same og people with shit tons of money, building cars and then, building another and another, i want to see some more budget builds. such as d series boosted, or all motor d series or zc swaps...

I mean come on, some of you talk on here more then you talk to your own family, so some of you may see these people your family, so lets say a family member would like to borrow something or they need it and are struggling would you let them have it or lend it to them, yes if indeed your a human bean, you would hook them up....

What happen to the homie hook up, what happen to the goodwill of people, if you dont use it and havent used it in a wile then why not donate it to a build, or help some one out, get off your high horse and help people out..

Yes i can understand there will be people, that lets say try to get free stuff, and re sell it els where, that s why you could have a set up where if some one is caught doing so, it will be a 5 day suspenstion, and the 2nd time banned, this is for good will not to cheat people out of there parts...

Im not sayin this cause i want free stuff if i dont need it, then i will not ask for it, im not a as hole, and yes i would contribute to this i have lots of misic parts i dont need, like injectors, mannifolds, and body parts i dont need so if there was a free section i would be honest, and i would be the first on post a free item, if every one is to scared to...

so bash on this post if you would like, i dont care... This form is here to help and inform people im sure of that, and to show what your proud up not to bash on peoples cars, ive done it before and i will admit it, but i have realized its pointless to hait on something some one els loves...

Good day to all, end of rant +1 for the free section.

Wow long answer for a yes or no question. And to stay on topic I don't think it's a bad idea to have a free section everybody needs a place to have a garage clean thread lol

X2 on that Gary, only issue I am still seeing is the fact that most people are still too lazy to post pictures.

Handa, is there any way to make all the for sale threads along with the free section, if it makes it, where you have to have pictures of the item(s) in order to be able to proceed with a thread?
I just think its lazy you want to get rid ot stuff but don't want to show people what they look like.....as they say "pictures sell papers"......same applies to the for sale threads.

Just some food for thought!

What's so hard about putting FREE in your thread title or message post. No need to have an entire section devoted to it.

Maybe if we had a free section it would incurage people to donate, when you go to mcdonalds and see the tip jar your more likly to tip, or see a donate jar, your more likely to donate, then if there wasnt one.. how is there more clutter its just one more section....

I think the idea behind this is to try making close to craigslist standards. People can search through free stuff without having to go through all the rest of the clutter.

It is and isn't a good idea...........kinda just falls in between to me. I can see the benefits of only having to see free deals in one section, but then you have the folks not wanting to read through the guidelines and posting WTB or FOR SALE stuff in there.......or the famous "lets bash on the thread and shit talk" crap that somehow never ends.

So, I am for it but against it in a way...........life goes on if it does or does not make it in!!!

Agreed with importusa on this one--people need to know how to post images (it's 2010!). I'd love that feature, but unfortunately, vBulletin doesn't have that as a standard feature it came bundled with. However, I could look into a hack for it (could get ugly with future vBulletin updates though).

Look at it this way, mods, if theres no pic, close thread, dont tell them, you have 24hr tell them thread closed..... and when they saport a picture bam youll open it back up, its not a dick move at all, not havin a pic of something that some one really wants, now thats a dick move, and i know i have posted stuff with no pics before, ill admit that, but i think that the percent of people that want it is a lil higher then the people who dont.

That sounds like an awful lot of work for the moderators to have to do just to compensate for the laziness of a thread poster. Sorry Ricky...I just don't see this taking flight.

On the same token though you guys as moderators need to shut down some of these threads without pictures and close down threads that either don't go anywhere or just start bashing on each other. The B.S. thread should be the only one with BS, yet I see it on almost all threads. Where are the infractions at?

...And please, by no means am I trying to tell anyone how to do their jobs or tasks.......just making sure everyone sees that not all is bad on just one end of the spectrum.
In order for this site to be successful rules need to be followed across the board. NEW things added need to be tried before they can be categorized as worthless or great.....if they work out you keep them.....if not it is as easy as hitting the delete key.

Edit cause what i said was too long and confusing.
Im not tryin to start shit or bash but People know the rules, and when they come to you and ask "why did you delete my thread" Tell them stfu read the rules. Its as simple as that.

its obvious i vote YES just for the fact its free. why make a whole new thread if i just wanna throw or donate junk away, i can just click a "FREE" thread and post what i dont want or need anymore.

I also dont even see a need for a picture unless wanted, its free you really cant complain.

WOW!!!! I actually think this is a GREAT idea.

I know a lot of younger people are on here and are just starting out on their own and anything they can get for free that's still got a useful life would help them out.

I was also thinking not just about car parts but other stuff people just throw away that still could be used. Like household items.

yea i would think this may need its own section as if we get an over abundance of items on here it would be easier to organize.
