it isn't horrible, but you do want it fixed before all the grease comes out of them. Just get a new axle or used one with a good boot on it. As for the weather stripping, you can try tackling it yourself or for a factory seal just take It down to a car window place. This way if it breaks you can have a new one put In.

Ya the axle is def 6-8 inches behind that rack and pinion there... just get a new one or good condition used one.

ohh shoot, sorry didn't see that....i was looking at the picture on my phone and it just looked like an axle....LOL

Yes, either way replace this.........you don't want it getting all that snow and junk in there and damaging more stuff. If you need any kind of diagrams on how to get it out, let me know.....if not take it somewhere and get it done, just remember you'll pay more that way depending on who does it.

Thanks for the correction ososlohatch........now that i've looked at it on our laptop I can definately seethe rest of the stuff...LOL

raise and support vehicle, if you are doing this outside....wear a coat its gonna be a cold one for ya..LOL
remove wheel on affected side.
remove the cotter pin and nut from outer tie rod.
mark the placement of the nut on the inner tie rod.
remove the outer tie rod and nut.
remove the clamp from the inner and outer sides of the boot.
pull the boot off and replace with new boot.
reinstall all parts and definately make sure to get your alignment checked to make sure everything is good.
Sorry, not pictures.....if in doubt just get a chilton/haynes manual....may possibly have pics or someone in here might have pics they can show you.

As for the weather stripping, check to see if there are nay clips holding it in.....don't remember if it does on the rear window!! If need to, post pictures so we see what is going on and maybe have a couple ways we can help you fix this issue.

Sometimes on thoes u can just replace the boot if not u will more than likely need to take tie rod ends and everything off.

i'm replacing my rack and pinion boot right now. i don't think there is any other way to do it without removing your tie rod ends. the hole on the boot won't fit around the outer tie rods.

while you have everything taken apart look at your tie rods. if they look there is any wear and tear you might as well replace those also. they are only 20 bucks a side. and its one of those parts that really sucks ass if it breaks while your driving down the road.

and just like rodnie(importsusa) said.. DON'T FORGET TO CHECK YOUR ALIGNMENT

Is it the rear window, or one of the rear side windows? The strips on the rear window are replaceable. PITA though. The side windows require replacement of the whole window. The seal cannot be purchased separately. Hope it helps.

Mike

Pain In The Ass - PITA

You should be fine. Just don't let the boot go all winter.

Depending on how bad the strip is, you can always go down to the autoparts store and get yourself a tube of 3M trim and badge adhesive. It should be a black tube with red letters. Once you get that on there, make sure you shove the seal back In place and put something over it to apply heavy pressure. This will keep it in place for awhile, like I said before though l, if you are unsure just take it to a window place....might save you some money In the long run.

Not always the truth, just look at It and see if It Is something you want to tackle.....if It Isn't, then go to a window glass place....check for prices around the area....some places like to charge way more then needed for something like this.

That boot looks iffy, but goodluck. Replacing that will be much more of a pain with all of this snow and cold weather. You should bring it over to importUSA and get it done,
