that h23 trans isnt going to last much longer. its popping out of gear, grinding 3rd and 5th. it just cant handle the power im pushing. so time to build one!
well mike, i purchased that old h22a4 transmission chaz sold to shawn (Rosko) 2 years ago. if you have any input on the shape of this trans that be nice. shawn doesnt seem to remember how good of shape it is in. since he never used it. he told me it should have no grinds. i know it doesnt have an LSD. so here we go. what parts are recommended? should i buy treated synchros? is there an advantage to that? should i do a final gear swap? or leave it for the sake of boost? i plan to run my 4 puck still, however would you go twin disk? why? __________________ Build for yourself, the way you want, never follow a trend, be imaginative. |

Ben, to be honest, I know nothing about the history of that transmission either. Guys have been blowing apart these transmissions for years. Weight and power level is a huge factor when it comes to grenading transmissions. Minimum I would plan on doing is new seals and new bearings. The parts for that will run you $200 for the seal and bearing kit. After I have it apart and am doing that work, I could diagnose the sliders and synchros for you. If you want to continue to put more power to it, and plan on racing it quite a bit, a gearset of some sort will be in your future. For now, throw an LSD in it, and switching to a twin disk setup would not hurt. You will have to add a pedal stop for the twin disk, and realize that there will be a little setup time in gettting that thing right. Rosko is selling his twin disk for $700 and I believe Charlie Moua is selling an H22 Quaife for $700. Some very nice parts for a good deal right there.
