Default 420a

i plan on turboing my 99 gs with in the next couple weeks with a bolt on turbo kit, and no i dont want a 4g63 so please dont say sell my car and get one because it will not happen, anyways wondering what would be a good reasonable kit to go with and how long installing all this would take, and if i should just take it to a shop and get it done, any pointers and suggestion will be appreciated

Hey whats up man, talked to you on dsm tuners, and at the ziebart meet ( i had the built motor for sale lol) anyways.. hit me up, and i can get you prices on what it would be if you built it/pieced together a kit, or we can build it for you.

First things first. whats your Goal? what are you going to use the car for IE, auto cross, Drag only, street/drag, Daily driver etc.. these will help me build you a better/reliable setup depending on what your wanting outa her..

number #, whats your budget, that will also dictate what parts we suggest, ie things that can be ran now, and upgraded later once you get more cash.

The 420a is defiantly under rated, but, unlike its cousin, its expensive to boost off the bat..

Things you want to avoid: Ebay turbo kits.

remember these things: Pay to play, you get what you pay for, do it right the first time or do it 2x..and most of all:

reliability, cheap, fast. Pick 2

ill pm you my number. let me know what your goal is and ill build you a parts/price list..

Great little engines.. But idk what you eclipse guys have for tuning options.. Us Neon guys(I am a Neonite) are stuck in the dark ages with a rising rate fuel pressure regulator/return line/afc setup, hahn portfueller, or megasquirt.

I wonder if you can swap the 1st gen Chrysler 2.4 into your engine bay without much work and use the Mitsu head.. You could run factory SRT internals that way and have an engine that will handle 500whp on the cheap!

I myself would just get a GSX but thats just my opinion.

Agreed. I'm sure you've heard all the horror stories about 4G DSMs always breaking down, but it's 90% of the time user stupidity lol. I've heard good things said about the 420A motor when it comes to boost, but those people have also put bank into their car to keep it reliable, as you would and should with any car thats not originally built to have a turbo on it. For the price you'd put into it to not explode, you could easily have bought a 99 GSX that has the upgraded factory bearings and is much less prone to crankwalking. But if anyone can help you get potential out of your car, it's pirate.

"I wonder if you can swap the 1st gen Chrysler 2.4 into your engine bay"

Thats what i run...I am swapped.. but theres alot of fab/eletrical.. so there is a decent amount of work to be done.. not to mention research, as there arent many that are swapped out there..

Srt internals are cheap, its getting the motor/fab in there and running thats the issue, for that he would need to go MS.. with his budget.. not happening.

neon 420a are almost the same thing, and ,whats wrong with MSnS, ? its prolly one of the best standalone, or piggy backs on the market.. id hardly call that dark ages.. for his budget, hes going to have to stay stock, and only run 7-8 psi..

as for gsx comments: yea you could get one, but then your again facing reliability probs..
findinig a clean one 6k+ then modding costs 2..

but then again, id still beat ya... ill post the vid of me blowing missy's GSX doors off.. the 2nd race was the best, she had me on launch, then i pulled on her.. a testament to boosting 420a/EDZ

are you going to beat a gsx on 8 psi, no, will you beat a GST? yup (if you can drive.. lol).. it takes cash to make any car quick, its when you have to put the cash in.. for the 420a, its upfront, for gst/X, its already turbo, so you can add alot of cheap mods to make it quicker, but in the end, to make it real quick, your stilll spending cash..just later u know?

the 420a is a great engine and VERY reliable and have never had problems with it not a single one no crank walk nothing, if i wanted a gsx i would have bought one in the first place but no i bought this car because it was my friends who passed away and i plan on keeping it and building it up who he wanted, and also a boosted 420a could smoke a gsx or gst if built right and in my opininon 4g63 is not a reliable engine at all, always hearing problems with them and people parting them out because the motors junk

I never said the 420a wasn't a good motor. All I said is that most of the people parting out their 4Gs is because they bought an oversized eBay turbo and no supporting mods. A motor is only as reliable as it's owner, so you can't really base all 4G motors off all the people who went retard and blew them up. Also, anything built up enough will eventually beat the compared car, so that's hardly an argument. What was your friends plan for the car?

"oversized eBay turbo and no supporting mods" truth.. but, the 4g's are alittle more prone to issues.. as well as the above statement.

Imo if you want it built up, then start saving, b.c boosting it now, is not the correct way to do it.. not that it doesnt work, it will just cost you more money in the end.. but for the goal we talked about, a basic setup will work just fine.

Ill just say this, i started with a basic setup to.. then once i felt boost.. i HAD to have more.. and now, here i am.. built 2.4 waiting till i feel comfortable turning the boost up to 25psi lol with untold amounts of money in it...

this isnt the exact car of hid but its the same emgine body style all the same options and colors, and he wanted to build an all black 420a sleeker boosted just so that he could prove to people that 420as are not just junk engines that you should sell and get a gs or gsx and also there is no way im going to buy an ebay turbo lol
