Hey guys, I've been in the drifting game for a long time, but I just moved here to Iowa. I've already met quite a few of the 240 guys around here, but I haven't really posted on here.
Here are some videos of me back in the day if you happen to care: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v...type=2&theater My car had very few mods back then because I was broke, but I still drove alright. I moved out here for a decent job and now I'm trying to build a serious contender. The following posts will outline that build. -Rob Louie https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000062018893 |

Then a guy I knew back in indy was selling this car. Had an Rb20, FMIC, turbo back exhaust, HSK SSQV BOV, AEM Wideband, and SAFC II. But, the body was real rough and it had no title. That didn't matter to me, I was just going to pull all the goodies. $1200 and a trip to indy later I had it.

I didn't really take too many pics of putting the Rb into the new car, it was just me and my cousin so I sort of had my hands full at the time, but here's the engine physically setting in the car.

Then I got an ebay body kit. On one hand, this is great because it's probably going to get beaten up a bit on the track, on the other hand, fitment....
The rear piece fit perfectly, the front required a little work, but the sideskirts. I took my little dremel thingy to them for forever and they still don't fit great. ![]() ![]() DON'T WORRY, I LOWER IT MORE LATER: ![]() ![]() |

Now it was time for the little things I needed to finish. First, power steering needed hooked up:
![]() My sideskirts still weren't fitting right, one reason was because they sucked, so I dremeled them some more: ![]() The other reason was because my driver side door hung a little bit, so it would scrape when closing, which didn't bode well for the side skirt. I pulled it off and found that the hole on the hinge had turned into an oval, so I JB Welded a washer on there: ![]() ![]() Relocated my harness while I was there: ![]() |

And that's how it sits today, I'm going to hopefully have the kit painted this week, then I need to weld my diff and have someone cut out my cat hump and put in a flat piece of metal so I can re-mount my racing seat.
My steering wheel is on it's way and I'm wiring up my guages. I'm hoping to get it done in time for the Midwest All-Star Bash the last weekend in May, but that will be close. I'll definitely have it ready for the rest of the drift season. I plan on attending all the remaining Drift Indy, Midwest Drifting Union, and ClubFR events. |

Thanks so much for the complements! Most of the events have some media people there, but I may try to pick up a GoPro or something at some point to supplement that.
The rushing to make events thing is a real problem for me. I'm a driver, not a project car guy, so having the car stop me from getting to events is frustrating. I already missed the first MDU event from 2 weeks ago, so since then I've been busting ass trying to get things done. But I'm building this with no loans or credit cards, so that sort of forces me to spread things out a little as budget allows, which sort of stops me from rushing. I plan on going to the Ziebart meet, the car is certainly driveable and Ziebart is only like 2 miles from my apt, so I'll see you there! |

We need to go sliding soon man, seeing your build thread is giving me some motivation to work on getting more done to my car. btw, how much did that cage cost ya and who made it? I've been thinking about ditching my auto power half cage and getting a full one welded in after you told me it's required to have a full cage for some events.
Nice thread, and keep up the work! ![]() |

I can definitely hook you up with his contact info if you are interested, or if you want to look around locally for someone, there's a pretty detailed description of the requirements here: http://indyrpm.com/forums/showthread...cal-Inspection Also, you can usually get in to any event without a cage, you just can't do any tandem, which sometimes limits your driving time more, and definitely stops you from competing. |

I remember you saying it was required for tandem. So I'll definitely be looking into that in the near future. I'll have to check out your car sometime in person, the build looks sick!

Steering wheel came in, still need to get a quick release though:
![]() Then we set up a paint booth in the corner of my cousins garage and I painted my body kit. ![]() Then after finishing up a couple more little things it was off to the carwash! ![]() Looking Good! (Well, decent at least) ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Eh, I can't really paint either, and I don't know anything about the guns.
I went to harbor freight and got a paint gun for like $50, tested it on some scrap metal for a minute, then painted the kit. I'm no professional painter, and the gun was a super chinese harbor freight cheapo model, so the paintjob isn't perfect, but it's definitely acceptable. So, if you just want a drift car just paint it yourself, but if you want a hard parker that looks good up close you should probably get a pro to do it. __________________ ![]() |
