Default Tranny troubles

My tranny clunks and then locks up. Clunks more and locks up again... and so on. When i drained it, no metal shavings whatsoever. I still have all my gears and shifted smoothly. Why does is lock up? Anyone got any ideas??

clunk, stop, clunk stop would make me believe it's either differential (spider gears binding due to missing teeth or a crosspin that's getting ready to make an escape out the trans case) or axle/hub related. Obviously, quit driving it until you figure it out. Manual transmission just happen to be very good blenders....

In all honesty we could sit here all day and speculate, the only way to know for sure is to crack it open. What kind of trans is it?

Sounds like a axle problem.

Do not just open it up, put it back togather and see if it still does it. If so, then search for rebuilders, kits or whatever you want to do to fix the tranny problem.

I'm a ways away but if you need someone to open it, check for probolems and fix any problem there may be, I probably have any part you would need to fix the trans. If you want to try it yourself, PM me and I'll send you a write up on how to do it. I'd recommend you watch someone experienced first but you can do what you want.

Reason I "speculate" is because I've redone over 100 B series transmissions. I've dealt with people explaining sounds and situations long enough that I've come to get pretty lucky on my guessing on what's wrong. GSR's don't typically eat diffs. However, if the problem is truly inside the trans, that is the only thing I can think of (differential or final drive issue) that would make the car bind up but still shift through all gears smoothly. I trust that the OP has eliminated all outside sources of binding.

Ryan

It's my differential bearrings. Youcanwiggle them pretty bad. From what I ve been told it's a pretty cheap fix. Thanks everyone!
