I'm working as hard as I can on getting pics/video up. I worked on editing from 7 till 12 last night, then fell asleep while doing it and woke up with my hand still on the keyboard. I brought my laptop into work with me today and I just now finished editing the photos, all I have left to do is video. Only problem is, I don't have a way to connect my laptop to the internet here (no wireless and no spare eithernet cord to use) I might end up using my phone to tether but not sure if I get charged for that or not. Anyway for now I've got a pic I had thrown on FB last night I can show ya. Not the best quality since FB always butchers photos. Also credit goes to Becca for taking this sick pic!

Is this a competitive event? Not sure how it works. Everybody was so far away from the inside cones...seems like it would be cooler if people were more accurate as apposed to just loose cannon all over the place. Or is that not the case when everybody is going at one time?

It wasn't a competition, more of just a go out and have fun "drift demo" if you will. The reason people weren't getting close to the cones is they asked us to stay in the middle of them because they had few workers and they weren't trading off either. They didn't want them running after cones continuously. They also gave us a warning about hitting the outside cones by the fence and said if we hit three of those we were done and would have to sit out. So everyone just aimed to be in the middle region, plus when doing tandem everyone tends to back off a little and not be as aggressive with angle to avoid having any accidents. Which still ended up happening.

Ahhh...that makes sense. I like the three strikes and you're out rule. Helps keep the spectators safe.

They said that people were starting to get dangerously close last event and didn't want a repeat of that.

Yes sir. I'm just being lazy, I uploaded them onto fb and never put them on photobucket or flickr. I could link the photos from fb onto here but I would rather upload the higher quality ones.

Default Re: Technicks 240sx

After some serious laziness I finally got around to getting some more pics uploaded. AutoMass was amazing I must say, Chicago is a completely different scene and one heck of an experience for me.

After all the crazy hectic rush to get my car together in time I met up with the Angle Junkies crew and we all took off to head that way.

Now I don't have a trailer or a truck so I drove my car out there. Surprisingly it wasn't all that bad. We arrived at around 10pm or so, hungry and tired. Checked into our hotel and got some White Castle for the first time. For anyone that hasn't had it and wants it, trust me, you don't want it. The taste isn't worth the shits...nuclear shits glowing with radiation.

The next morning got up stupid early. Check in was between 7:00 and 8:45, if you're not there then you don't get to drift that day. Since our hotel was just down the street from the place I decided to live up this complementary breakfast and take my sweet time to get ready. Got out of there at 8 and drove down the street to find a train...the slowest moving longest fucking train of my life. Sat there for 10min and was blocked in by other cars so I had no where to go but wait. Right around that 10min area a second train on the other tracks appeared...then stopped just over the tracks...The first train went by and the second one just sat there parked...10min after that the train remained sitting there and would back up a few feet then stop again. He ended up not crossing the road but was close enough to the tracks that the arms were down. We didn't cross those tracks till 8:35.

Finally we were there and checked in. Just in time thankfully. The day started out with getting everything unloaded and wheels switched out. Also took a stroll around the pits to check out some of the other cars there.

Had our drivers meeting to go over the course layout and lay down some rules. Don't hit the outside cones or you're done, and don't hit too many of the inside cones or you're out for the session. Also found out there wouldn't be any ride alongs which sucked, so instead of riding in the car with me I put my girlfriend to work taking photos all day.

The first part of the morning was incredibly cold and the course was slick. Everybody was having understeer issues, mid drift cars would suddenly understeer and lose the drift. Also the course was incredibly bumpy. This lead to a wreck right off the bat in the first group to go on the course.

As you can see this car was beautiful

Then not so beautiful...

After a few more runs from that session my group was up next.

It was a really fun course layout staring with a right turn entry going into a long left hand followed up with a manji finish. The spot we had in the pits was right where the cars came out of the main corner and into the manji portion. We didn't move around from that spot too much so most of the photos are from that area.

Becca was quick to becoming upset with the pics she was taking. She had absolutely no experience with manual settings on a camera so she had been shooting in auto. This doesn't make for those crazy action shots, after having been given crap for photos she took in Minnesota she wanted to take good pics that everyone would like. I gave her a quick 5 min lesson on shutter speed, F-stop, and Iso, and this is what she pulled off right off the bat.

If that's not natural talent I don't know what is. Also on a side note of the pics, absolutely no editing was done. We simply re sized the photos and included a watermark. So these are all camera baby

It didn't take very long for bumpers to start flying off everywhere. Zip ties didn't like the bumpy surface and it was very clear early on in the day.

I think I only spun out 2 times the entire day and they were during my first couple runs, after that it was smooth sailing for me. Well, except for the 3 cones I ate.

Going through all the photos I quickly realized Becca was madly in love with this LS1 swapped S13.5 I think there are double the amount of pics of this car then what there is of mine.

Everyone took a lunch brake just after noon, drove our cars over to the car show portion to let everyone see what drift cars look like up close. I used this to check out the car show, use the bathroom, and my friend Nate even randomly showed up since he just so happened to be in Chicago that weekend.

Saw an R34 in person for the first time.

There wasn't much of a Honda scene out there. I think I saw a total of 2 maybe 3 Honda's the whole weekend. This wagon being one of them.

Then to top things off I think I saw the most beautiful VW ever. This engine bay was so clean it and well done that it would have easily dominated at the 515 Get Down show. VR6 MKII with shaved and tucked bay say whaaat???

Right back to the action and someone's car went pee on the course. The only integra I saw went rushing to the rescue!

Wait a minute...I didn't know Yo liked to drift!?

Since I was in the Intermediate class I wasn't allowed to tandem. However in the morning they said if I was doing well enough they would bump me up with the advanced guys. After having gone a few hours of clean runs and not being bumped up, I decided I would spice things up a little bit to help catch their attention.

They didn't like that very much...said I was encouraging other people to do it that aren't able to do it...lol so that was quickly brought to an end.

Right after that session I was stopped by the main guy running it and got the thumbs up to join in with the advanced guys to do some Tandem runs.

As you can see in the pics when following several cars it gets a little difficult to see through the smoke.

It was a ton of fun going out there and definitely worth the trip. I would even go as far as saying that it would be well worth going out there just to spectate!

Now lets get some drifting going on here in IOWA!
